Looking for Christ (Video)

And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his Name alone will be worshiped.
Zechariah 14:9 (NLT)

It's easy to look at a world map and realize that the earth consists of many nations and many rulers. Among Christians, however, there is a certain unity—though we live in different lands, we are one, and we acknowledge one Sovereign, Jesus Christ. But even we must admit that our lives don't always reflect our beliefs. We are tempted by a variety of things that would hold sway over us, often easily recognized in possessions and desires that compete with God.

But during Holy Week, we must face another, more subtle reality. And that is that Christians are also tempted to practice a religion that is very un-Christlike in its denial of the cross. We worship a crucified Lord, but we fail to recognize God in our own pain. Though it is not wrong to see Christ in the blessings of the healthy and the well-off, it is even more important to seek him in the face of one who is suffering—especially if that face is the one we see in the mirror.

His servants will worship him; they will see his face, and his Name will be on their foreheads.
 Revelation 22:3-4
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Almighty God, your dear Son did not experience the heights of joy without first experiencing the depths of pain, and did not enter glory before his crucifixion. Therefore, in your mercy, help us to walk the way of the cross, that we may know life and peace.
