An Old Soul

On New Year's Eve I mentioned that old wineskins aren't always occupied by senior citizens, but that there are plenty of younger people who are unwilling or unable to change as the Spirit leads. Today's verses from Psalm 119 take the opposite approach. 

I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your decrees are my meditation.
I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts. 
 Ps. 119:99-100 

Here we see that just as an older person might have a youthful spirit, a younger person might have an old soul. I dare not assume that just because someone is considerably younger than I am that they have less understanding of the scriptures or are less wise than I. The First Letter to Timothy in the New Testament says something very similar: "Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity" [4:12].

Thank you, Lord, that you have created your people in ways that make it impossible to make assumptions. I can look to both young and old for guidance, for the shell I see does not necessarily describe what you see. In the Name of him who taught me to pray...
