Thanksgiving Communion Prayer

With hearts uplifted, let us now turn to God with gratitude.

We give you thanks, O God,
for all your gifts, so freely bestowed upon us:
For the beauty and wonder of your creation,
in earth and sky and sea;
For all that is gracious in our sisters and brothers,
revealing to us the image of your Son;
For the food on our table and clean water to drink;
For the roof over our heads,
and for family and friendship;
For minds to think, hearts to love, and hands to serve;
For health and strength to work;
For a sabbath on which to rest;
For the brave and courageous,
who are patient in suffering and faithful in adversity;
For all valiant seekers after truth, liberty, and justice;
And for the communion of saints, in all times and places.

So send now your Spirit to settle on the gifts before us,
that in the bread we break, we may discern the body of Christ;
and in the cup we share we may taste your goodness
and see your salvation.
May that same Spirit unite us in love for one another
and in ministry to our neighbors.
We pray this through Jesus Christ, who, with you and the Holy Spirit,
lives and reigns as one God, now and forever. Amen.
