The Power of Love

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity, overlooking the sin of the few remaining for his inheritance? He doesn’t hold on to his anger forever; he delights in faithful love.
Micah 7:18 (CEB)
The power of God is amazing. We see it in creation and in the victories of armies. But if we're to judge by the space devoted to it in the scriptures, such power is secondary to the power of love. Israel is awed by God's power over nature and over enemies. But real celebration is reserved for the unmerited grace of God in choosing the least of all peoples, and in forgiving them when they went astray.

And so, when God sent his Son into the world, it was not to vindicate God's people with the sword, but to demonstrate God's power of mercy, and to spread the gospel of forgiveness to the ends of the earth.

Should I ever need a sign from God, therefore, I need only look to the cross, and know the amazing power of forgiveness.

He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else?
 Romans 8:32
Prayer after meditation
O divine Father, whose mercy ever awaits those who return unto thee in true lowliness and contrition of heart, hear now one humble suppliant who needs thy help. Bring to me afresh thy healing and cleansing power, so that again I may lay hold of the salvation which thou has offered to me through Jesus Christ my Lord.
 John Baillie
After your own thanksgivings & petitions, close with the Lord's Prayer.
