Kindom Passport

And this city shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them.
Jeremiah 33:9
I just checked my passport. It expires two months from tomorrow. So I suppose I'd better get on that. My passport is what tells the world that I'm an American. My driver's license tells everybody I live in Ohio. And my birth certificate makes it known that I am a native Kentuckian. "And there's another country," as the British patriotic song says: "We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering."

Though I am as true as I'm able to be to the country where I was born and the community in which I live, I must ever remind myself that my true allegiance is pledged to the kindom of God. The blessings of God, in whatever form they come, are a glory to those who count themselves among God's children. But how do we make those same blessings a revelation to those who do not know God, who don't seem to be interested, or who might even hold God's children in scorn?

How we live in the world can grant us peace or can cause us stress, can intrigue those around us or cause them consternation, can attract or repel. When I encounter someone, may I meet them with an open heart that when we depart, it may be in peace.

Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.
 Luke 2:29-32
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Light of life, you came in flesh, born into human pain and joy, and gave us power to be your children. Grant us faith, O Christ, to see your presence among us, so that all of creation may sing new songs of gladness and walk in the way of peace.

After your own thanksgivings & petitions, close with the Lord's Prayer.
