Faith to Sing

O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things.

Psalm 98:1
When in our music God is glorified,
and adoration leaves no room for pride,
it is as though the whole creation cried,
Hallelujah!

How often, making music, we have found
a new dimension in the world of sound,
as worship moved us to a more profound
hallelujah!

So has the church, in liturgy and song,
in faith and love, through centuries of wrong,
borne witness to the truth in every tongue:
Hallelujah!

And did not Jesus sing a Psalm that night
when utmost evil strove against the Light?
Then let us sing, for whom he won the fight:
Hallelujah!

Let every instrument be tuned for praise!
Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!
And may God give us faith to sing always:
Hallelujah!
 Fred Pratt Green (1971)

With gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.
 Colossians 3:16
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
My God and King, bird song and sea-roar accompany the praise I lift to you. Mine is no solitary voice raised in gratitude; a thunderous and multitudinous congregation is making sounds of thanksgiving, and I am glad to be a part of it.
