Trust in God's Power

As your life was precious today in my sight, so may my life be precious in the sight of the Lord, and may he rescue me from all tribulation.”

1 Samuel 26:24
In 1 Samuel, we learn that God has rejected Saul as king over Israel because of his unfaithfulness. In his place, God has chosen David. Near the end of the book, Saul has fallen into David's hands, but David refuses to take vengeance on Saul, asking God to show him the same mercy. A similar situation arises in the Book of Acts where we find Saul on trial before the Jewish high priest and the council. He throws himself at their mercy, and God delivers him in order that he can share the gospel in the very seat of the empire's power.

These are two examples of how disciples trust in God, even when all seems lost. Real power lies not in human judgment or in human vengeance, but in the One who created the universe, the Judge of all people, and the Protecter of all who trust in God.

That night the Lord stood near him and said, “Keep up your courage! For just as you have testified for me in Jerusalem, so you must bear witness also in Rome.”
 Acts 23:11
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
I trust in you, O Lord; I say, You are my God. My times are in your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors. Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love.
 Psalm 31:14-16
