Humans and Animals

You save humans and animals alike, O Lord.
Psalm 36:6
On earth, the things we see every day praise God, if only we would take the time to listen! These creatures represent their Creator as merciful. This is the lesson that is most apparent in the creatures we can observe on land, in the sea, or in the air, whether we stay home or go abroad. Job (12:7-9) tells us to ask the animals, and they will teach us; the birds of the air, and they will tell us; ask the plants of the earth, and they will teach us; and the fish of the sea will declare to us. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? God's nurture reaches to an innumerable multitude of creatures, giving them life and motion. God sustains them and provides for them. God blesses them according to their nature and condition.
 Thomas Manton (paraphrase)
As we look for God's presence in our own lives, let us not forget to look for God's goodness in the creation that surrounds us.

Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
 Matthew 6:26
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Thank you, Lord, that you provide for the world. Help me to appreciate the ways you bless both animals and humans. And may your blessing inspire my respect.
