Because Christ Is Good

We do not present our supplication before you on the ground of our righteousness, but on the ground of your great mercies.
Daniel 9:18
When we need God's help more than ever, when we've gotten ourselves into a mess and cannot find a way out of it—it is then that we are often the most hesitant to come into God's presence. Why? Because we are not good enough. How can we, ungrateful sinners that we are, possibly ask God for anything?

And yet, that is the message of the gospel. We can approach God not because we are so good, but simply because we believe in the One who sits at God's right hand.

Nowhere in the Bible does anyone approach Christ, saying, "I don't really need you, but I thought you might enjoy my company." No, everyone who asks something of Christ does so because they need Christ. And Christ responds—not just to the needs that are obvious, but also to those that are hidden. Christ grants physical and spiritual freedom to those who need him.

May we be bold to approach God's throne, not because we are so good, but because Christ is so good.

Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word, and I shall be healed.
