You'll Learn the Mystery

Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the voice of his servant, who walks in darkness and has no light, yet trusts in the Name of the Lord and relies upon his God?

Isaiah 50:10
I am the light of the world—
you people, come and follow me!
If you follow and love, you'll learn the mystery
of what you were meant to do and be.

When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and the shepherds have found their way home,
the work of Christmas is begun—

To find the lost and lonely one,
to heal that broken soul with love,
to feed the hungry children with warmth and good food,
to feel the earth below the sky above

To free the prisoner from his chains,
to make the powerful care,
to rebuild the nations with strength and goodwill,
to call a man your brother [sic] everywhere—

To bring hope to every task you do,
to dance at a baby's new birth,
to make music in an old man's heart,
and sing to the colors of the earth—

I am the light of the world!
You people, come and follow me!
If you follow and love, you'll learn the mystery
of what you were meant to do and be.

So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
 2 Peter 1:19
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
We have wounded your love: O God, heal us.
We stumble in the darkness: Light of the world, transfigure us.
We forget that we are your home: Spirit of God, dwell in us.
Eternal Spirit, living God, in whom we live and move and have our being, all that we are, have been, and shall be is known to you, to the very secret of our hearts and all that rises to trouble us.
Living flame, burn into us, cleansing wind, blow through us, fountain of water, well up within us, that we may love and praise in deed and in truth.
