Fearless Service

Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.
Isaiah 25:8
In the Hebrew Bible, Isaiah promised that God would wipe away our tears. John promised the same thing in the last book of the New Testament. And yet, despite the bookend promises, we know there are still tears.
Right in between there's another prophet: Zechariah. Some consider him the last prophet under the old dispensation, others the first prophet under the new. Zechariah didn't promise an end to tears, but he did promise an end to fear. There will still be those who try to use their power against God's people. But no matter what the world throws at us, we need not fear anything if we're doing God's will, if we're serving God.
God promised Abraham, our father, that he would save us from the power of our enemies so we could serve him without fear.
 Luke 1:73-74 (NCV)
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Servant God, grant us opportunity, give us willingness to serve you day by day; that what we do and how we bear each other’s burdens, may be our sacrifice to you. Hear this prayer for your love’s sake.
