Handiwork of God

The life of all creatures is nothing else but the breath of God. This quickening virtue and power of God, is that word by which all things were made. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth [Ps. 33:6]. And this word was not an empty sound, but became the life of all creatures, resting upon them as a principle of life and power.
 Johann Arndt

Since we are, body and soul, the handiwork of God, we will always belong to God, whether we live or die. As the old saying goes, Those who die in grace go no further from us than God, and God is very near.

God is not served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things.
 Acts 17:25
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Not my own! Oh, not my own! Jesus, I belong to thee!
All I have, and all I hope for, thine for all eternity.
 Daniel Whittle (1878)
