Take His Yoke

Remember the long way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart.

Deuteronomy 8:2
Deliverance is what God does, and God does it without our help. But we are not passive partakers in our relationship with God or in our earthly life. Beyond deliverance is discipleship, which is the life of wholeness and integrity to which we are called. Christ's work on the cross empowers us to life beyond death, a life of love and service, a life of meaning.
The life that Jesus calls us to isn't necessarily easy. It asks hard decisions of us. It often demands that we be different or stand up for unpopular causes. But in taking the yoke of Christ upon our shoulders, we will find the kind of peace that the easy life will never give.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
 Matthew 11:29
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
May the strength of God pilot us.
May the power of God preserve us.
May the wisdom of God instruct us.
May the hand of God protect us.
May the way of God direct us.
May the shield of God defend us.
May the host of God guard us
Against the snares of the evil ones,
Against temptations of the world.
May Christ be with us!
May Christ be before us!
May Christ be in us,
Christ be over all!
May thy salvation, Lord,
always be ours,
this day, O Lord, and evermore.
