This Is the Day

In my tradition, it's common on Easter Sunday to proclaim,
✙
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
 Psalm 118:24
And indeed, Easter is a wonderful day to quote this verse: It's the day when Jesus was resurrected, the day we celebrate God's triumph over death.
But Easter isn't the only day God has made. All days belong to God, the Creator of the earth and the sun and the laws of the universe. Every time the sun rises, we should thank the One who created the dawn. And not a day goes by that we are not presented with new opportunities for love and service.
A great example of one who seized the day was a New Testament character named Zacchaeus. He was a tax collector who heard Jesus was coming to town and wanted to see him. Two things about him are important: He was a short guy, and he basically knew no shame. So he climbed up in a tree to see who this guy was. But Jesus saw him there and called him down. Though everybody criticized Jesus for visiting a sinner, the sinner in question became a disciple. All this because Zacchaeus took advantage of a simple opportunity that unexpectedly came his way one fateful day.
Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.
 Luke 19:5-6
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Thank you for this day, O loving Creator. Help me to receive it as the gift it is, to recognize its new opportunities, and to use them to glorify you and serve my neighbor in your Name.

After your own thanksgivings & petitions, close with the Lord's Prayer.
