Children of the Light

When I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.
Micah 7:8
Exactly a year ago, darkness seemed to descend upon the planet.  Almost overnight, a sickness few of us had heard of and none of us understood was suddenly all we could think about: A virus suddenly became a world dictator. Perhaps the most obvious sign of its reign was the shutting of doors and the exile of people of faith seemingly far from their church homes.

This left many of us feeling alone in the darkness. But we soon found that we had not been abandoned: God was yet shining a light on us, drawing us deeper into fellowship with our Lord and with one another. We'd heard all our lives the saying, "The church is not a building, it's a people," even while, in the bright days when we took for granted our in-person gatherings, we spoke of "going to church" as though the opposite were true.

Now we know that I am the church, you are the church, together we are the church. Wherever God's people gather in person, online, or in spirit, there the church is found: there God's people are in ministry, there Christ's love is made known. As the light at the end of the tunnel draws ever nearer, let us never forget that, though the darkness surround us, we are children not of the dark, but of the light.

You are all children of light and children of the day.
 1 Thessalonians 5:5
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
In the midst of pain, persecution, or pandemic, Lord, we feel you with us. Grant us your grace, unite us by your Spirit, and inspire us to serve in your Name.
After your own thanksgivings & petitions, close with the Lord's Prayer.
The song begins at 01:18
