The Sure Foundation

My hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I summon them, they stand at attention.
Isaiah 48:13
The universe seems to most of us to be infinite. In the same way, time appears to have no beginning and no end. And yet all things, whether in space or time, have a limit. Creation has both a starting point and an end point. And all things have a foundation: Jesus Christ, the One upon whom all creation is upheld, and whose Spirit surrounds all that exists.

Though this seems a high and lofty concept, it's also a thought that can carried with us through the day-to-day occurrences of our life. If Christ is the reason behind all things and the foundation of all that is, then there is nothing that happens to us that he cannot help us bear; there is nothing beyond or beneath his loving concern.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being.
 John 1:1-3
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving-kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
