Walk the Walk

God instructed Abraham in Genesis 17:1,

"I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless."

Reading that out of context, a person might think that God's promises were conditional: Do as I say and I'll love you to the end. But God had already expressed love for Abraham. God's grace wasn't dependent on Abraham's obedience, but was offered as strength for the journey.

The person of faith doesn't walk God's path in order to gain God's attention or approval. We walk the walk to lead others to God.

This is what Jesus told us in the Sermon on the Mount. We are a flame in the darkness. No matter how weakly we think our candle is sputtering, if we share the love of God, each of us is a light shining on someone's path leading to God.

Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
 Matthew 5:16
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
You are the light of my life, O God. Let your love shine through the way I live my life, that I may others to you.

After your own thanksgivings & petitions, close with the Lord's Prayer.
