Speak Grace to Conflict

In Jeremiah's day, there was a huge amount of contention—some of it taking place right in the temple of God. The effect of all this arguing back and forth was paralysis on the part of many. The discouragement was so great, that those to whom God was revealing his will simply kept silent for fear of stirring the pot even further. Into this situation God spoke this word:

Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let the one who has my word speak my word faithfully. What has straw in common with wheat?
 Jeremiah 23:28
God's word does not depend on strength or volume or elegance or even human wisdom, but on faithfulness. To speak a simple word of encouragement into a demoralizing situation, to speak a word of peace into an argument, to speak a word of love into hateful situation—this is the power of God to transform a sad reality into an arena where the grace of the Most High is free to operate on and in the lives of all involved.

My speech and my proclamation were not with plausible words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.
 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Help me to listen for your word, O Lord. And when I realize that you have something to say in a difficult situation, help me to speak your word with love and courage.

After your own thanksgivings & petitions, close with the Lord's Prayer.
