Amazing Grace

Before I was humbled I went astray, but now I keep your word.
Psalm 119:67
Amazing grace—how sweet the sound!
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

Nobody wants bad things to happen to them. But the faith taught to us by the scriptures tells us that bad things do happen, and that there's nothing God can't overcome. Even when we do the bad things, there's good in it, for it's then that we experience grace—forgiveness, the unearned love of the Almighty. It's grace that brings us to God to ask for grace. It's grace to receive grace. and it's grace to live in a state of grace. God loves us so much, that, from the beginning until the end, our lives are filled with grace.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be
as long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
a life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
the sun forbear to shine;
but God, who called me here below,
will be forever mine.

For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death.
 2 Corinthians 7:10
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
You have loved us, Eternal God; you love us now; you will love us forever. Your love passes knowledge. It is like a warm, sunlit ocean enfolding the tiny islet of our lives—though we swim in it, we can never reach its limits. Thank you for the depth and length of your love!
