Knowing the Unknowable

I think of you on my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night.
Psalm 63:6
God is unknowable. The human mind cannot possible comprehend the reality of who God is. Indeed, when Moses asked how he should tell the Israelites who God was, the reply was simply, "Tell them that I am."

And yet, as unknowable as God is, God wants to be known. No, we cannot understand the incomprehensible. But we can deeply know God's love, God's justice, and God's peace. We can explore God's creativity and praise God's majesty. And in knowing God, we can better understand our own humanity. We, who were created in God's image, contain within our spirits the seeds of the divine. It is only in praying, reading about, and meditating on Who God Is that we can also know the good, the bad, and the ugly about ourselves.

Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.
 1 Corinthians 13:12
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Help me to understand myself, O God, for in your light can I see light.
