The Face of Jesus

He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
If we think only of the worst things we have done, our lives will be a tortured mess. Indeed, there are people who dwell too much on the wrong they've committed in the past... they are far from happy.
God's solution to the problem of sin went far beyond anything anyone could ever have imagined. He sent us a Friend and Brother who took our guilt upon himself and died with it. The life that he now lives is one of freedom and forgiveness. And when we look upon the worst that we've done, we no longer look into our own guilty eyes, but we see the face of Jesus. Thus we see not only how God is part of our world, but also how we fit in. No longer rejects, we, too are part of God's plan; we, too, are part of the body of Christ.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
 2 Corinthians 5:21
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
I thank you, O God, for the forgiveness you offer me in Jesus Christ. Help me to live into the freedom won for me on the cross.
