Companions

Do not now be stiff-necked as your ancestors were, but yield yourselves to the Lord and come to his sanctuary.

2 Chronicles 30:8
God is magnificent and judgmental, we think. Because of God's perfection, we fear even approaching, let alone entering into the Divine. But what if we were to discover that God approached us, that in Jesus Christ, the Divine entered into us?
In fact, God did approach us. And through the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are the sanctuary of the Divine. Whenever we share in the sacrament of bread and wine, we are participating in the very love of God; we are companions of the Christ.
For what does companion mean? The com- prefix means with, and pan simply means bread. Our companion is the one with whom we share bread. When we share in the Lord's Supper, we move from fear to companionship in our relationship with God.

Blessed is anyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!
 Luke 14:15
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you have entered into the human story, not to condemn us, but to share bread with us and be our Friend.

After your own thanksgivings & petitions, close with the Lord's Prayer.
