God's Dominion

His dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.
Zechariah 9:10
The Bible speaks not only of God's dominion, but also of Messiah's. And when it does, the image is glorious. Christians have long looked to these images for vindication of our beliefs, which we so often see denigrated in the eyes of the world. Yet, though we look for vindication and speak proudly of God's reign, how seldom we have acknowledged that dominion where it matters most: In our own hearts and over our own lives.
Can I look forward to the day when all will bend the knee to holy Name of Jesus, when I harbor pride in myself, place my country's flag above the cross, or look to a political figure as my savior? I can get by in the world and be a fine citizen of my country while still giving Christ first place in my life. Indeed, if I say I belong to God, I must place God above all.

God also highly exalted him and gave him the Name that is above every name, so that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth
 Philippians 2:9-10
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Forgive me, Lord, for giving to myself or another creature the honor that belongs to you alone.
