Seeing the Light

After his deep anguish he will see light, and he will be satisfied.

Isaiah 53:11 (CEB)
No one can imagine what Christ was thinking about on the cross, what Christ saw from the heights of Calvary. But the Bible tells us that it was for us that he suffered there, that it was our sins that were forgiven there, and that we are the recipients of the love of Christ expressed there. Though all was pain and anguish, there was a glimmer of light beyond the place of the skull; and, by faith, I must believe that my Lord was able to see it from the cross.

Just as the work of Christ's brings us wholeness, so we are the completion of that work. If Christ saw the light at the end of the tunnel, it must've been us—just as Christ is that same light for the hopeless sinner.

The One who said said, "I am the Light of the world" also said, "You are the light of the world." In his light we see light.

You have come to fullness in him, who is the head of every ruler and authority.
 Colossians 2:10
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Kindle, O Lord, in our hearts, we pray,
the flame of that love which never ceases,
that it may burn in us and give light to others.
May we shine forever in your temple,
set on fire with that eternal light of yours
which puts to flight the darkness of this world.
