Providence

God will send forth his steadfast love and his faithfulness.
Psalm 57:3
Broadly speaking, there are two kinds of divine providence. The first is general providence. By this is meant the creation of all things, the laws of the universe which maintain creation, and the blessings of creation such as rain and the cycle of the seasons which make human life possible.
But then there is particular, or special providence. By this is meant the interference on God's part to provide for a certain person or people or cause. This is the kind of providence that accounts for many of the Bible's miracles.
Regardless of what one believes about special providence, it is important to look for God in all the ways that life is made possible, or even enhanced. Does the rain fall on all people—good and bad alike? Thank God for it. Does the rain fall on me just when I need it the most? Then thank God for that, too. We will never err by showing gratitude to our Maker.

Yet he has not left himself without a witness in doing good—giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, and filling you with food and your hearts with joy.
 Acts 14:17
Prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
I thank you, God, that you provide for humanity. I thank you, too, that you provide for me.
