God Unites

If you obey the Lord your God, blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field.

Deuteronomy 28:2-3
Jesus transformed our view of family when he said that anyone who did God's will was his brother or sister or mother. By refusing to give preference to biology, Jesus was showing that it was God's intention that barriers come down.
We find this not only in the gospels, but throughout the scriptures. Wherever people are divided, we see God uniting. Whether it's ethnicity or gender or social status or cultural lifestyle, God's promise is for all. What a shame, then, that in our own country, we see people being pulled apart. Why are we so easily convinced of something that is so loudly contradicted in the Bible?

Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!
 Luke 11:28
Today is Ash Wednesday, so this is an appropriate prayer after thinking about today's devotion:
Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

After your own thanksgivings & petitions, close with the Lord's Prayer.
