Third Sunday of Easter

April 23, 2023

CALL TO WORSHIP
Let us now call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised.
The Lord is our rock, our fortress, and our deliverer.
The paths of God are perfect and the promises of the Lord prove true.
He is the protecter of all who take refuge in him.
—based on Psalm 18:2, 3, 30

OPENING PRAYER
Almighty and all-loving God, we gather once more in your presence, trusting in you to help us re-prioritize our lives and bring order to our chaos. May our worship this morning help us understand your will, that we may love what you command and seek after your promises. Fix our hearts on the hope that we find in the good news of the resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
O Jesus Christ, Son of Mary and Son of God, you are the true light that enlightens all people. You are the Lord of time: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow are in your hand. And you are the Lord of eternity, for yours are the power and the glory.

Christ our God, you are not just the light of the world, but you are our light. Stand among us in your risen power, draw us to yourself, call us away from death, and draw us to light and life. Brighten the darkness of our hearts and illumine our thoughts. Make us into new creations, and renew the world according to the laws of your kingdom. And may the image of God that was eclipsed by sin shine forth once again in lives lived in gratitude and joy.

O Christ our Light, in your light we see light shining on this world, and it is in your Name we pray.
—Reformierte Liturgie (1999), alt.

COMMUNION PRAYER
God of grace and glory, in Jesus Christ you forgive all who sorrow for their sins, you include in your family all who desire newness of life, and you draw to your table all who hear the invitation. We thank you for your love and faithfulness, and we ask you to send your Holy Spirit upon us that we might discern in this bread the body of your Son, and taste in this wine the goodness of life in the Kingdom. Strengthen us in this holy meal that we might experience your wholeness, and serve you in acts of justice and lives of peace. We pray this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

BENEDICTION
God has invited you here:
Come home; stand on my promises.
And now God sends you out into the world
that others may hear God’s promises
and find a home with God’s people.
So go forth in the love of + God,
the grace of Jesus Christ,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
